Two Indonesian Scientists receive Toray Award
[Jakarta Post, Tuesday, 3.2.2004; By anonymous] Two Indonesian scientists received on Tuesday the Toray Award from the Indonesian Toray Science Foundation (ITSF) for their research work. In addition, Arief Witarto and Evvy Kartini each received a Rp 60 million (US$7,000) research fund, which was given by State Minister of Research and Technology Hatta Radjasa during the award ceremony.Arief was awarded for his research on Protein Engineering of Beta Propeller Proteins, while Evvy was awarded for Research and Development of Superionic Glasses by Neutron Scattering.
The foundation also granted Rp 639 million in research grants, ranging from Rp 25 million to Rp 42.1 million each, to 19 young scientists who were selected from 150 applicants.
Also present at the ceremony was director general of basic education Indra Djati Sidi and Japanese scientist Ryoji Noyori, who received a Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2001.
